Blinded by light - BTS
BTS: Behind The Scene
Nik and I tried a lot of light set up. and unfortunately. We didnt get any behind the scenes shots for light description. Luckily, I tested one shot with the light set up.
Heres the processed photo/s and incidentally this was my favorite shot/s on the blinded by light series.
I did mention this briefly on my previous post. but this one is very good composition wise.
-good framing!
-the photo is divided in 3 segments. floor, couch and painting
-nik's posing! S curve horizontal and vertical
-nice shades of black and white
need to improve:
-center the couch.
-remove blemishes and distracting elements(strand of cloth low left part of the couch)
colored and wider version of this shot
..and heres the BTS of this light set up
..found a neat website for lighting diagrams.
- theres 3 lights popping right here. the other one was hidden behind the umbrella.
- the 2 lights directed to the wall was to remove shadows creeping behind nik.
- to achieve the shots. i lay down on the floor and try to frame it properly.
- i dont even remember the settings of the lights. either its on 1/4 to 1/64

Blinded by light series #1
Yesterday, (Sept 25) Nik and I did our full set up strobist!
Gears we used:
5dmk2
500d
18-55
24-70 L
135 L
2 lumopro 160
1 580EXII
Pockwewizards
Stands
and a lot of lightmodifiers.
Also all of the processing here are done in lightroom3. I must say lightroom3 is more userfriendly and not as time consuming compared to photoshop. But of course, photoshop5 is still better in single picture editing.
Heres the selected few images. I will try to remember the strobist info.
Title not needed.
1
(2 light set up. 1 from the back directed at her back head and 1 umbrella from left to right, at an angle)
2
(2 light set up. 1 from front right, snooted to her hair and 1 umbrella from left to right at an angle)
3
(3 light set up. 1 umbrella from left to right, 1 directed at the background, 1 snooted to the face)
4

5

9
(2 light set up. 1 umbrella and another snooted and gelled to the background)
10
(3 light set up. 1 umbrella, 1 hairlight and another snooted and gelled to the background)
11
(2 light set up. 1 umbrella, 1 hairlight and another snooted and gelled to the background)
Thats all folks!
Nik and I are continuously learning and trying to improve our photography. bear with us!
1,6,7,11 are my top picks here.
1 - this was a test shot. but i like the candidness of the shot.
6 and 7 love the framing. thank you nik for making this frame.
1 - my last shot for the entire session and i went and break some rules to capture a lot of lines from a different perspective.

Blinded by light
Nik finally agreed on me shooting her strobist style portraiture.
I tell you. I'm excited in taking this new adventure as a challenge for us. To better our skills in photography. OH YEAH!
We all know. I love spending photography related stuffs. which i end up selling it for whatever reason.
My latest GAS(geared acquired syndrome) is a strobist set.
1 - LumoPro 160
1 - Compact Lightstand
1 - Umbrella Swivel
1 - 43" black/white umbrella
1 - Beauty Dish
4 - Pocketwizard PlusII
With this set, i have a 580EXII, a crappy lightstand and my ever trusting 5dmk2. Im going out strobist style. and as soon as i recover some money ill buy one more set of strobist set up and maybe a mid range lens (24-70L or 50L or 85L) and ill be a happy camper. packing 2 lumopro160 and a 580EXII.
I will, rather Nik and I will embark on this new adventure and hopefully make better pictures that would satisfy our judging eyes.
Case in point. I AM EXCITED!
And one upcoming project would be a moulin rouge prenup for Dax and Carlin. Lets see if this pushes thru.

ITS SO FLUFFY!!!!!!!!
If you haven't heard of this movie. You must be living under a rock, under the sea, over another planet or universe.
I've seen the trailer of this movie since 2009. and its evolving, changing trailers. Starting with an inflated pyramid, then the minions, then gru reading three fluffy kittens.
Anyway, This movie is really funny from Gru's lines to Vector's gadgets to fluffy unicorns to capsule shaped minions. It's packed with a lot of laughter and the characters were really good. at least based in my opinion.
Uncle Fester of Addams Family look alike with a hint of Borat accent, Gru the super villain and somehow the protagonist in the movie. Rival by a pear-shaped, orange-jumpsuited, square thick frame glass, beatles cut Vector the antagonist is out to make a name for himself in the most diabolical ways and plotting one another's demise.. yadda yadda..
Fun Fact (Nik told me that Marshall of HIMYM is the voice behind Vector.
The thing that's interesting about this movie is the way that it inserts a super villain into the traditional self-sustaining but empty man adopts kids and blossoms as a human being storyline.
so does the movie suggests that every man is a super villain until he becomes a father?
This is a defiantly unsophisticated movie. Comparing to Toy Story 3.
A must watch!

Let the Great World Spin
What is it like to compete with an inanimate object?
How is it suppose to be?
Is it you lie to an inanimate object about a live thing?
Or is it you lie a live thing about an inanimate object?
How does it feel like when you find yourself prioritizing an inanimate object more than a live thing?
There are some things worth valuing in life, because we can't have some forever.
"How can I pray with this inside me? How can I do what i'm supposed to do? I don't even judge myself by my actions. I judge myself by what's in my heart. And it's rotten because it wants to own thing, but it's not rotten because it's the most content I've ever been, and it's the most content she's ever been too, sitting there together. We're happy. And I keep wondering if we're supposed to be happy."
"Pain's nothing. Pain's what you give, not what you get."
Two of the few lines from the book by Colum McCann. A definite good read. Many things to learn, several to realize, and more to enjoy.
His point: Come to think of it, which is which.
