"You could argue that we constantly change the past, whether or not we actually go back."
One of the many lines in the book RANT by Chuck Palahniuk.
Didik introduced me to this author and this is Chuck's (close, by the way) first book that I've read and I must say that it is definitely one of the most twisted and interesting stories I've ever read- light, witty, with out-of-this world ideas, but nonetheless, full of insight.
This line is definitely true. Oftentimes, we catch ourselves daydreaming of going back to the past to change, more often than not, the negative parts of it. We long to take back wrong decisions, painful words, harsh realities that took place at that time in our lives, so that better things would come about. But, think about it. It's impossible to do so. We can never go back. We're stuck to here, and what's ahead of us.
So how do we really try to change the past? By changing our present. We can never take back all the negative things that have happened already, neither the positive ones. What we just try is to learn from these, and hopefully by doing so, we change the past by not repeating the same mistakes.
Yes! We can change the past by working on our present, looking at a better future.
A good read!
