The ideal partner is not the one who has the same interests as you do, who are good at the things you like, or the one who has the same beliefs as you do, contrary to what most people believe.
The most ideal partner is the one who is willing to learn the things you’re good at and exerting effort to share the same passions you have. He takes interest in what you do, no matter how far off his own likes are. In the differences of your beliefs, he inspires thought, not to the extent of manipulating what you stand for, but only to the point that ignites your interest and attention. He is confident and independent, firm in his stand and never falters at the face of challenges. He is honest, straightforward and strong enough to tell you your mistakes and help you correct them. He admits his mistakes and never makes excuses- always forgiving, never selfish. His love is unconditional, constant in your life, never ceasing. An ideal partner would never have to look for anyone else, nor risk your relationship. He will not be open to even having any choices. But if ever he does, he would always choose you. And be better.
In reality, the first “ideal” person is everywhere. It is so easy to find another person who is like us in many ways and most of the time we fool ourselves into believing that he/she is the right one. The second ideal person described is hard to find but possible. What makes that person best for you is the fact that amidst differences, you find similarities that bind you two together, little differences that actually make your relationship more interesting. It allows for learning and partnership.
It is easier to find someone whom you share many similarities with. But who ever said that “easy” equates to “better”? It is the hunt that makes the relationship worth it. Stop looking at the shallow end of things. Dig deep. It is hard, but not impossible. Don’t allow yourself to be fooled. You might be making the biggest regret of your life. Choose well. Commit.
The best person for you will cross your life only once. Don’t miss it. And don’t be stupid. Be open. Be smart.
I used “he” for a reason. Go figure.
