  3. I'll give you a breakdown on how I came up with the vote.
For me, if you're talking about overall impact the image is just 50% of it, the other half is how you label it. It's all about leading your viewers to your concept or perspective. In this case BOTH failed miserably! Beads? and Watch? Most of your previous work were labeled brilliantly and at a prestigious photo contest such as this you could have put in a little creativity on the title. This is just a disappointment. (sarap mag-powertrip pag ikaw ang botante!)
However on the subject selection without a doubt I go for the BEADS. Why? because a Montblanc Watch, in it's absolute state is already a work of art. "Could I get credit for taking a picture of the Mona Lisa?".
In all fairness both entries were framed nicely.
But the real winner for me is the BEADS a win by 7-6

  4. There are times that an image dont really need a title. 50/50 for a title? that my friend is absurd.

For the Title yes. I agree, we went to a simple path and use a direct title instead of using flowery words and jargons that would make it better. ERGO hiding the technicalities of the photo

We could go technical with this and explain all the details went to taking a shot but people wont really understand. Thats why we break it down to two categories:

Creativity of the shot - With this, we could break it down to lighting, positioning, focus, lines, curves, composition, etc.. but no need. we just need to know if its pleasing to the viewers.

Overall impact and title- what does the title said and how would you connect the image.

and yes. you can take credit for taking a photo of a monalisa painting.

Take a tilted and underexposed photo of the eiffel tower. people wont praise your shot.

Now, take your time in composing your shot of a grass compose it properly and expose it accordingly. people would probably be awed by the shot.

"Could I get credit for taking a picture of the Mona Lisa?"
    ANSWER: YES

    Whos flawed now?

  6. With the bead shot. I love the co-relation of the colors and accents and the big bead hold the image and made the eye not wonder out of the image. Love the lighting as wel. Properly lit and no harsh shadow. Sharp.

With the watch shot. Excellent lightwork. Shadows and highlights made this shot good. And the simplicity of the color, or lack thereof. Although, It would be better if the hands were not cut off. and set were it would be seen and non obstructive.

Overall, not bad for a 1hour photo challenge including the uploading. Decent shot but needs a lot of improvement on both images.

  7. The reason I was harsh on the title is becuase the objective (as I understood it) of the photo contest is Overall impact of the image and (drumrolls please) TITLE. So, 50-50 in this perspective is not so absurd.
Ok, my scoring was illogical on the image part and theres just no excuse for that.
But here is my point regarding the subjects, taking a renowned art as a subject just creates instant advantage and i mean a lot of it. It really does. Really. Which is not, a level playing feild for me.
The watch if asked over a larger number of audience will definitely win simply because it really is a nice watch. The question should be, how much value did it add to the watch or beads? In my opinion, there is a need for a rematch! GO GO GO!!!

  8. hehe..

The wordings of the category were wrong. BLAME THE JUDGES!

Price of the subject is irrelevant. Remember, we set our limitations to:
    1) 1hour to prepare and post
    2) Inanimate object
    3) Macro
    4) Inside the room

Its not a matter of the quality of the watch. I took a lot of photos of this watch and the dents and scratches are all over the object. and i compose the shot with the Name and the famous knob of the watch(PRODUCT SHOOTING). The photographer made it look good.

    Think about it..
Reshoot the same watch in your head.
    Use a very thin aperture.
    Use a very colorful ground
    Use a very distrating backdraft

    Heres the EXIF DATA
    Canon EOS 5D Mark II/100MM MACRO L H-IS/SPEEDLIGHT 580EXII/FLASHWAVE II
    Exposure: 0.013 sec (1/80)
    Aperture: f/22.0
    Focal Length: 100 mm
    ISO Speed: 500
    Exposure Bias: 0 EV
    Flash: Off, Did not fire
**used the black part of the illustration board as the table top. and on one side the other part of the illustration board as the bounce of light. The flashgun is positioned on the other side of the table top angled directly at the white illustration board**

Now, With the beads.. If were talking about lighting. I love the illumination of the bead shot. Its well lit and no harsh shadow.

"The watch if asked over a larger number of audience will definitely win simply because it really is a nice watch. The question should be, how much value did it add to the watch or beads?"

On our first challenge(iPHONE) Nik won using a colored pencil. and one of my entries then was with a 17inch macbook pro. Case and point, value of the item or the item itself is irrelevant. Its how you present the item.
There will be more challenges. Were at 2-1.

One of our future challenges is the prenup shoot with you guys. win win situation for all of us.

  9. I was not talking about the actual value of the subject. How much value (e.g in percentage) it added to the item.
Really excited about the prenup. Should we include set design as part of it? And then over all concept?

  10. "The wordings of the category were wrong. BLAME THE JUDGES!"

    EDIT: BLAME THE CREATOR!
    oh wait thats us..

  11. The subject we chose is limited inside our room. I decided to shoot this particular watch because the set up i did was like this

    |
    |
    |
    ______=____ *

    Legend:
    | white part of illustration board
_ black part of illustration board
    = watch
    * flash

The desired effect was to enhance the shadows of the chrome and not produce other color (monochromatic effect)

As i previously stated. the photographer made the shot. one could present the watch differently.

In regards to the prenup. The location and set should be decided by you guys. Nik and I will shoot and we will ask you to pose.
    Same set.
    Different photographer.
    Single challenge.

  12. While reading the first few comments, I was already thinking of my reply.

    But...

Thanks to the wordy-too much talk-long comments, I totally lost my ideas.

So, I LOST. Well, REMATCH it is. Whatever subject, whatever limitations, GAME ON!

I DARE THE JUDGES TO TAKE PART IN ONE PHOTO CHALLENGE. No cheating!

and next time, STOP explaining. More photos, less talk. (HAHAHAHAHA)

Goodjob, partner! 'Til we meet again.

Meron pa kayong nalalaman na Mona Lisa ha!

  13. By the way, I agree. We chose lame titles. Only because, 1 hr is just enough to shoot and upload. Thinking of a "deep" title would require more time.

Plus, the challenge was simple and spontaneous. So must the titles be!

    Here's me justifying.
